Hello,
I am a college student, with too much-or maybe is it not enough time on her hands. I am a triple major in Psychology, Biology, and Political Science. I hope to become a Neurologist and a board certified Psychiatrist. Which really bags the question why Poli Sci? Political Science is just another avenue to study human behavior. I am a people watcher.
Other than that most of my interests have been formed, as Watson would say, by my environment. I think growing up in a house of women has fostered two predominate interests: one being my absolute fascination with people, and second (more specifically) their relationships. I am a believer that everything has meaning, (ha-ha you can tell from my writing). Once again being the youngest in a house of females has left me with the handicap of needing to explain and analyze everything. I apologize if you feel as if your back Senior high school English looking for parallels and symbolism. I can't help it I love to put it into my stories.
I originally began writing as a creative outlet to relive the stress and tension of school; Grey's just happened to be an easy venue. I chose to write “Start from the Beginning”, because I believe that the Addie/Mark/Derek triangle is really the basis to the show. Although I am aware that the show is "Grey's Anatomy," I really do think the show's most interesting dynamic centers around these three. They seem to anchor in the main story line of Derek and Meredith. There is a reason why Derek is with Meredith, and in my opinion, it is not because they soul mates (or whatever someone might choose to classify it as). A lot of how Derek treats Meredith stems from his relationship with Addison. Their marriage in general is one of the most underplayed, underwritten story lines of the show. Personally, I think that their marriage is the most interesting aspect of the show. Thousands of women encounter indifference from their husbands or have their spouses "fall out of love" with them. What causes this to happen? Why do people fall in love and out love? How to people choose who they want to spend the rest of their lives with? Marriage, love, relationships and monogamy are always interesting topics.
With that being said, I would think that if a show is to be based off of one couple's love story, shouldn't that relationship be something worth watching? Television has never been and will never be reality. However, millions of women base their expectations of relationships and the concept of love on what they see daily; on what shows like Grey's Anatomy tell them to believe. Television is suppose to be the ideal; what most wish they could have. When I watch Grey's Anatomy I find that often I'm not drawn in by the main couple's story. I hate to say it but Derek's relationship with Meredith is typical for TV land and very unrealistic. I enjoy them as a couple, but they are not a couple of substance. There is something missing. I think that Shonda writes beautifully, and I am aware that to write a show such as Grey's she has to be not only incredibly creative but also intelligent. Is it a coincidence that there is something missing in that relationship? I don't think so. I think that the hole will be explained in seasons to come.
Meanwhile, I like most others wait for Thursday nights to watch the interesting dynamic of the Seattle Grace staff unfold. Thank you so much for reading, and responding. I always love comments positive or negative.
